Which is the best time to visit Pelling?

March to June:

This three-storied, old (since 1705), the aesthetic monastery is one of the famous monasteries. It is only 2.8 km from Pelling helipad and takes just 7 minutes to reach there.  Its sculptures and paintings are adorning. But the seven-tier model of Guru Rimpoche is the main attraction. This wooden model is decorated with fairies along with rainbows.

It is a treasure trove of several Buddhists antiques, sculptures, scripts and other art forms.

It will come across Pelling-Gyalshing Road, Geysing.

Rabdentse Ruins:

It is only 8.9 km from Pelling. Moreover, it takes around 32 minutes. It is beside Pemayangtse Monastery at a walkable distance. A 20 minutes’ walk through gorgeous nature will give the feeling of the expedition.  It is another popular tourist’s attraction of here. The area is surrounded by dense deciduous woods, chestnut groves and lakes, spreading across the hilltop. It was once the capital of Sikkimese Kings. Almost everything is lost. Chadok Namghyal established his capital here in 1670.

From here, one can enjoy the awesome panoramic view of the valley along with Kanchanjunga range.

Sanghak Choeling Monastery:

It is only 8.3 km away from Pelling and requires around 31 minutes to reach there.

It is only 3.4 km away from Pemaysngtse Monastery and needs 9-minute only.

At first, it was built in the 17th century. Besides, it is a Buddhist pilgrimage highlight. The route goes through hilly terrain with rich forest covering the total path.

One can also trek the route to here. If you love trekking, then you may take around 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach here.


Here you can find statues, some of them are clay statues, striking paintings and scriptures. All these along with its serenity makes it a must-visit place.

Kanchenjunga National Park:

It is only accessible by hiking as well as the most popular trekking. The area covers 849 sq. km. of area. It is home to the red panda, sloth bear, musk deer, Himalayan Tahr and Black Bear, civets and etc.

At first, seek permission from the Wildlife Education and Interpretation Centre at Yuksom. It is in North Sikkim.

Tashiding Monastery:

It is 35.1 km from Pelling and takes 1 hour and 35 minutes. From Pemayangtse Monastery it is 29.5km and requires 1 hour and 16 minutes. It is located between Rathong chu and Rangeet river. The views from here are lovely.

Changey Waterfall:

It is 15.7 km from Pelling and takes 44 minutes. From Sanghak Choeling Monastery it is 10.2 km and requires 21 minutes. It is almost the same distance from Pemayangtse Monastery.

This splendid murmuring cascade in West Sikkim is a must-visit tourist spot while in Pelling.  Frothy white waters of this famous waterfall are falling down from a stature of over 300 meters. Added to this, colourful birds are flying around.

Darap Valley:

In fact, it is heaven with the appealing homestay. If you have time, then you may enjoy one-day homestay here. It is only 13.8 km away and it takes about 42 minutes to reach from Pelling. It is only 8.4 km from Sanghak Choeling Monastery and it takes only 20 minutes.

With a rich heritage, it is an emerging homestay destination. The prime attraction of here is its pristine beauty. Moreover, you can visit the old Limboo house in the 2nd century. Besides, you can hike or splash water in many streams. Furthermore, it is a birdwatchers’ paradise.

Sewaro Rock Garden:

It is a picturesque picnic spot close to the city. Here, we will enjoy fountains, avenues well maintained structured rocks along with resting sheds. There are orange farms nearby.

It is another must-visit place in Pelling. It is only 4.5 km from Darap Valley and takes only 8 minutes. From Pelling, it is around 18 km and takes only 49 minutes to reach there.

This glinting waterfall is eye captivating. Therefore, it is an eye delight.  Afterwards, it turns into the Rimbi river. The locals as well as the tourists enjoy fishing and swimming like activities.

You must try Assala, a local fish dish. You will get it only here.

Kanchenjunga Falls:

It is only 12.1 km from Rimbi waterfall and requires around 26 minutes to reach there. From Pelling, it is about 30.1 km and needs around 1 hour and 15 minutes. This milky stream is another must watch falls off here. It will come in the Yuksom route.

It is only 10.3 km from Kanchenjunga falls and requires around 25 minutes.

It is 40.4 km from Pelling and requires 1 hour 42 minutes. Rimbi Water Falls, Kanchenjunga Falls, Phamrong Falls, Khecheopalri Lake all are nearby Yuksom. It is famous for rock climbing, hiking. Besides, there is Dubdi Monastery. If you want, then you can enjoy its natural beauty.

With biodiversity and spirituality, it is another place to visit in Pelling.

Khecheopalri Lake:

It is only 13.3 km from Rimbi waterfalls and takes around 30 minutes.

Moreover, it is only 16.6 km from Kanchenjunga Falls and needs about 39 minutes.

Besides, it is around 31.3 km from Pelling and requires about 1hour and 20 minutes.

It is the highest bridge in Sikkim. This suspension bridge is the pride of this area and an engineering marvel. It is 240 meters long and over 100 meters tall. This gorge bridge has an elevation of 198 meters. It is amongst the highest of its nature in Asia.

From Pelling, it is only 33.3 km and it requires around 1 hour and 30 minutes. From Sanghak Choeling Monastery it is 27.8km and it takes only 1hour and 7 minutes.

Bersay Rhododendron Sanctuary:

If time permits, then visit Barsey rhododendron sanctuary from Kaluk. The road goes through Hilley. It is 61.1 km from Kaluk and takes 1 hour and 55 minutes. From there, it is 4 km trek.




It is at an altitude of 10000 feet. Therefore, its temperature will be considerably lesser than Pelling.

The trekking trail is undulating along with varieties of rhododendron shedding the whole path. Moreover, you will get magnificent views of the mighty Kanchenjunga. Besides, you can other major peaks like Pandim, Kabru group (North-South and Dome), Rathong, Kumbhakarna, Tinchenkhang and some others.

Stay overnight at Versey to fully enjoy the amazing beauty of rhododendron. It is also famous as the valley of rhododendron. You can see all the varieties with various shades as well as colours. The trekking route is ablaze with colours during mid-March to whole April.  This riot of colours is created due to the full swing bloom of the rhododendron.

Added to this, the beauty of the sunrise is unforgettable in your lifetime. You will feel heaven-like enjoyment.

Apart from the eye captivating rhododendron, there is also a cluster of magnolia, silver fars, hemlocks, snake lily, cobra lily, several orchids, oaks, pines and bushes. If luck favours, then you can see the red panda.

It will take around 1 ½ hour. This sanctuary is spread across 104 sq. km. It falls in the western part of the famous Singalila National Park.
